adventures of a BABY WRANGLER...? OR, WHY IT'S CHRISTMAS IN JUNE...
As most of you know...I got fired from one of my latest restaurant jobs here in da' city...Not because I was doing a bad job, but because one of the owners was an uptight gal who thought it was okay to let a loyal, hardworking employee go without notice....or reason...(NO baggage here, really...).
So I found myself drifting and feeling like one lost and aimless 36-year-old...
I was burnt out on the restaurant biz, angry at work, and unsure how to proceed...BUT, the entity that is this city heard my cry (as it does all of us if we are paying ATTENTION...)...and one day my friend GRAY called to asked if I wanted to earn some money working half a day on a set for a photo shoot as she had to be somewhere else..."SURE" I said...(I said it to anything that offered cash...)...
I ended up meeting the gal I am now working for as an assistant to a stylist...working on photo-shoots, making(like a skateboard with the Swedish flag emblazoned on it) and arranging, and buying props...
I get to go to all sorts of places, and funky prop-houses in this town I would otherwise be clueless of. I get to meet some interesting people, like the older Jamaican gal at a trim store who told us stories about the last 30+ years of people coming into the shop for various flamboyant needs: including the prostitute who was loosing her marbles and came in for a yellow feather boa in nothing but a bright yellow rainslicker....apparently you could hear a pin drop...
It is a job with creative outlets and endless possibilities....And everyday is different...Just today I was on the set of a shoot for a Portland, Oregon based kids clothing company for an x-mas/ winter catalogue and spent alot of time squatting behind the photographer, waving bright colorful toys to get lil babies to smile and look at the camera...surreal...
Who knows where I'll be and who I'll see......or meet...I'll let you know though....
Funny how life can change so quickly....But then again this is a city that has seen many changes....
